Parliament building has quite a bit or art on display. My very favorite was a life-sized bust of poet Robert Burns made entirely of matchsticks.
The artist originally made three busts. One of them was actually set on fire in honor of the poet's 250th birthday (Robert Burns...get it??), so now both an original and the singed edition are displayed together. Scottish humor, I guess.
The Parliament building's signs are all in both English and Gaelic. I haven't a clue about pronunciation.
Then I rode city buses for a couple of hours (grabbing the front seat on the upper deck whenever I could, the best seat in town), something I like to do in order to get a better feel for wherever we're visiting. Edinburgh's got mountains and hills around its perimeter, and the castle,of course, so you always have at least a vague idea of where you are based on what you see, and other folks on the bus were happy to give me directions and suggestions on which line to ride next.
One of the fun aspects of being upstairs on the bus was seeing clearly how crowded downtown was today because of being a holiday weekend...and staring right up the noses of passengers on other buses passing less than two feet away!
I'm coming down with a cold so this blog won't be very exciting for a bit. I basically took the rest of the day off, depositing Allen in a pub that made him happy.
He seemed very fond of the idea.
